The St. Timothy storage shed was in need of repair. The shed, which is used for general storage by the church as well as for equipment storage for the scout troops, was leaking water into the shed and causing rot. The roof was a major cause of the problem in that it was not pitched adequately and the eave overhang was too short.
Repair of the shed was one of five projects approved by the congregation at its 2010 annual meeting. Since estimates for commercial repairs exceeded $8,000 the project was undertaken by the property committee with the help of the scouts and their leaders.
We estimated what materials we would need and scheduled the work for Saturday, May 1, 2010. The work crew gathered early in the morning and began demolition of the roof and old aluminum siding. Once they were removed, it was discovered that the damage was much worse than anticipated. The shed originally had been build for church use only, but when we chartered the scout troops at St. Timothy, the need arose for more storage. The original shed space was designated for scout use and a 6-foot addition was added for church use. The entire newer section was severely water damaged and rotting away. It was necessary to totally demolish that section.
The primary repairs are now complete and we are waiting the installation of the new roof. Once that is done the exterior siding will be put in place and the shed will be repainted by the scouts.
The photos below chronicle the repairs.
